When the Cavebase Exploration Team of Germany came to us with a request for the most high-performing drysuit ever made, we accepted the challenge. Our design team worked with them to identify pain points with the drysuits they were currently using, and develop innovative solutions. We started with a single panel for the arms and torso—oriented on the bias for superior flexibility. Then we gave it a lean Cave Cut design, used a draping method of tailoring to make underarm adjustments that improved mobility, and slimmed the shoulders and upper arms to minimize its profile.
Every detail of this drysuit is designed to perform well in highly technical dive situations. While the technical requirements of this drysuit is the same as the Men's X-Mission, it is a completely different suit. We overhauled the pattern, articulating the arms, legs, and torso to naturally follow the female form. Then we worked with the Cavebase team to dial in the functional details, like ensuring that cargo pockets are large enough to fit the items they use most, yet small enough to fit naturally along the cut of the drysuit. This included orienting pocket zippers on an angle, for adequate length and spacing. Men and women are built differently, and they dive differently, their suits should be made differently too.
